What types of contact lenses are available?
There are two main divisions, soft lenses and hard lenses. Soft lenses are available in annual, monthly, two-weekly, daily and the new 30-day night and day wear lenses. Night and Day lenses are made of an entirely different material that allows for the highest levels of oxygen permeability allowing them to be worn even when the eye is closed.
What kinds of disposable lenses are available and which is the safest?
A comprehensive study published in a leading periodical showed that the safest and healthiest way to wear soft contact lenses is using one-day disposable modality.
Contact lenses are a very safe option for vision correction, however, like all prescription medical devices, they are not without risk. Careful compliance to the optometrist's instructions for care and wear is very important.
